ULTRA RS is a French company working on material characterisation and residual stresses measurement with ultrasounds.

Non destructive testing with ultrasounds is widely used in the industry for crack detection. ULTRA RS uses also the ultrasonic method in order to analyse the material state, regarding residual or apply stresses and mechanical caracteristics.

The ultrasonic technique can be applied on different types of metal structure:

Our mission:

To propose a non destructive solution based on ultrasounds to our custumers. The ultrasonic technique has many advantages compared to others to measure stresses : it is non destructive, fast, cheap and portable to industrial site.

Our activity fields:

Stresses in rail
    • Mechanical engineering - Steel industry
    • Aeronautics - Space
    • Energy - Nuclear
    • Car industry
    • Railway industry
    • Pipeline - Building trade

What is the knowledge of residual stresses important for?

Measurements on a pipe
    • To evaluate and improve fatigue life
    • To avoid induced machined part distortion
    • To evaluate and improve corrosion resistance
    • To dealy the apparition of cracks

Different sources of residual stresses:

Residual stresses
    • Non homogeneous plastic deformation
    • Differential cooling rates
    • Phase transformations

Residual stresses occur in materials during different manufacturing processes:

Pipeline
    • Forging
    • Casting
    • Rolling
    • Machining
    • Welding
    • etc.
